People from the olden times have been using solar energy for various uses and the use of products which work on solar energy has been increasing day by day .People have been trying to build various devices which can store solar energy which can be used later on for various purposes . The various reasons for increasing use of solar energy are as follows.

Solar cookers, solar heaters are some of the devices that work on solar energy and their use is increasing day by day. With the advancement of technology there has been new devices built and hr researches have been done to build devices which can store lot of solar energy. Solar cells work on photovoltaic effect. Photovoltaic effect is the process performed by solar cell under which it converts solar energy into electricity. This effect was discovered by a nineteen year old boy named Alexander Edmond Becquerel. Thus the basis on which solar cells work was discovered by Edmond which was in the year 1839.
It was then in the year 1876 when Adams found out that when selenium is exposed to light it generates electricity. This was very important discovery as it proved out that some solid materials have the power in themselves to generate electricity from light. In the year 1905 Sir Albert Einstein played an important role in developing the solar equipments by explaining the photoelectric effect and he also received a noble prize for it.

The first solar cell which worked on the photovoltaic module was discovered by Bell laboratories which was in the year 1954. It was a very remarkable year in which the power of solar energy was realized by many. The first solar battery by bell laboratories was very expensive and many people wanted to buy it but they could not afford it and so people started to understand the need for making solar cells which can be made available at a lower price which is affordable hr. In the year 1963 Japan installed a photovoltaic array on a lighthouse which was of 242 watt. This array developed by Japan was one of the largest arrays in the world in that time and this was a very remarkable achievement.
Before the discovery of the photovoltaic process solar energy panels were only used for household purposes but it totally changed after its discovery. The first solar panel was developed in the year 1950 and was used by many people. In the 1950s it was too costly but the period around 70s changed the outlook of Government towards solar energy and Governments started investing in solar equipments and solar panels software. Basically after the 1970s solar panels were used on a large commercial basis to generate electricity which can be used for various purposes. Solar panels were started to be used for lighting lamps on the streets and then changes keep happening software.
The main contribution to establish solar power as an important source of energy was done by US and Japan. US and Japan worked a lot on expanding solar power technology. US and Japan were the countries which started solar power generation stations. The cost of solar cells kept on lowering down after the 1970s and solar panels were developed at many places.
The main benefit of solar panels is that they generate energy from the solar energy which reached the earth and does not use any harmful fuel. With the increasing advent of technology new solar equipments are coming up which can be used as replacement to various electrical equipments which helps to save lot of exhaustible energy.
